Project narrative

CBN01 is the original and the most adaptable thing we have drawn: thirty feet of space worked out to the inch, with what you need in it and not much else. It reads considerably larger than its square footage, and that is mostly a question of where the storage went - suitcases, the router, books, cleaning supplies and the mechanical systems all have a place built for them rather than a corner they ended up in.

It sits on a 30-foot trailer and tows behind a heavy-duty pickup, so it can be built off site and delivered or built where it stands. It is fully off-grid compatible, and there is a 22-foot version of the same design at 195 square feet.

This is the only one of these designs that exists as a building. It was built as the artist residency Offsite runs in Wassaic, and the photographs here are of that cabin, shot across two seasons. Having to operate a building does change how you go about drawing one, which is most of the argument for keeping the residency at all.
