- The certificate of occupancy has to be renewed each year.
- An owner who stops occupying the house after an accessory dwelling unit permit has been issued is in violation under § 140-17G(2).

ADUs vs. short-term rentals in New Paltz
Short-term rentals allowed with registration for Town of New Paltz. The town requires a rental registration to rent a home short term, under Chapter 110. The same registration covers long-term rentals that are not owner occupied. These are separate questions from whether you can build an ADU — a unit you're allowed to add isn't automatically one you're allowed to rent nightly, so check both. Municipal source
